Director: Blake Edwards ("10", Breakfast at Tiffany's, S.O.B., The Pink Panther, Blind Date; this will be his first film since 1993's Son of the Pink Panther, starring Roberto Benigni)

Screenwriters: Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (known for their quirky biographical comedies of obscure cultural figures, like Man on the Moon, Ed Wood, The People Vs Larry Flynt; they've also got Liberace and H.R. Pufnstuff coming soon; they're not brothers, so any similarity between them and this film is obviously coincidental)

Based upon: Charles Nelson Reilly is very much alive (as of 4/1/01), and semi-retired. Most famous for being a consistent celebrity guest on the game show, The Match Game, and other TV shows dating back to the mid-1960's, few remember what he was famous for to begin with (which was a successful Broadway career which earned Reilly a Tony nomination for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying).

Premise: Two screenwriting brothers (Stiller, Piven), known for their quirky biographical comedies of obscure cultural figures (Benny Hill, Clara Peller, Topo Gigio) have written their greatest, funniest piece ever: How to Be Famous Without Really Trying, the true story of Charles Nelson Reilly. The script has gone around town, and everyone's loved it. Czerny Hapschatt (Depardieu), the famous European director, wants to make the movie. The studio wants to make the movie. A major star (Willis), who would play Reilly, wants to make the movie. America wants to see the movie. The only problem? Charles Nelson Reilly isn't quite dead yet. So... with their careers on the line after a flopped Rip Taylor biopic (starring Matthew Lillard), the screenwriters and their producer (Seinfeld) decide to take matters into their own hands, but what they find is... Charles Nelson Reilly Won't DIE!!! Oh, by the way, along the way, the two brothers fall in love with the pair of kooky Israeli assassins (Peet, Romijn-Stamos) they hire to do the dirty deed, and the producer learns the heartwarming lesson that you shouldn't kill aging game show guests. (DuVall plays the actor who would play Gene Rayburn.)

Filming: Production started on April 1st, 2001.

Genres: Comedy, Kooky, Hoax
